This brush pile is almost 18 years old. I started to notice different species of trees growing out of it and became curious so I thought why not move it over. Moving it still added protection for the little critters that need a place to stay.
While breaking down the brush pile, I kept the trunk portions of the trees to use for erosion control. I was amazed at all the rich soil that was created over time, not to mention the native trees that popped out of this nursery.
This is the final phase of the brush pile. I decided to create two trails out of it. Each contributed to slowing erosion and stabilizing the hillside. The cool part was creating a trail through the trees that were hidden in the brush pile. This spring, when all the leaves and native grasses return, it will look beautiful.
